Project Management in Logistics, Internship

Situation

Sample distribution to medical professionals was a manual process, taking a full working day to complete and prone to inconsistency across the sales team.

Approach

Mapped the process end-to-end across departments, identified the operational bottlenecks, and designed a semi-automated Excel-based system that allocated samples by physician segmentation and commercial priority. Presented the solution through iterative feedback cycles with senior management, then trained staff on adoption.

Impact

Allocation time dropped from roughly 16 working hours to 2–3. The system was implemented and remains in active use at the company today.

The last checkpoint before automated tax filings went live

Tax Technology Consultant

Situation

Deloitte's developers had built a proprietary SAP-based tool automating tax document generation — VAT, GL and TBR reports. Before any client went live, output had to match historical filings exactly: in tax reporting, a small discrepancy means fines and legal exposure, not a rounding error.

Approach

Ran pre-go-live reconciliations across more than 10 client datasets, cross-checking automated output against prior years' actual figures. Traced discrepancies to root cause — almost always small configuration differences in each client's own SAP setup, not the tool itself — and flagged findings to developers for resolution before go-live.

Impact

Was the validation layer standing between an automated tool and a client's legal tax obligations, across 10+ clients. Also supported onboarding, go-live activities, and trained incoming team members on the process.

A fixed fleet, four standing demands, no software

Transportation Coordination Officer, Avlonas

Situation

The camp ran on a fixed pool of vehicles — cars through tanks and heavy machinery — against four simultaneous, non-negotiable daily demands: food distribution, camp security, soldier transport, and transport to training. Vehicle breakdowns were routine, shrinking the pool without warning. Everything was tracked on paper.

Approach

Coordinated dozens of vehicle movements daily with supervisors and drivers, re-triaging priorities in real time whenever demand outstripped available vehicles — which was most days. Every movement was manually logged and documented.

Impact

Stripped of context, this is a constrained-resource-allocation problem: fixed fleet, competing fixed demands, stochastic capacity loss — solved daily, manually, with real consequences for getting it wrong.

Reallocating stock when the trucks don't show up

Operations Associate

Situation

Wemer distributes Villeroy & Boch, Vado and Valdama bathroom fittings. 3PL and transportation delays were a recurring risk — on large projects and with important clients, a late delivery meant added cost and a decision that couldn't wait.

Approach

When a delay hit, resolution meant working three fronts at once: reallocating available stock across clients to soften the impact, coordinating directly with factories to reprioritize the most time-sensitive orders, and proactively flagging the issue to affected clients before they discovered it — then working with them on a path forward.

Impact

Processed and audited dozens of orders daily end-to-end, ran physical inventory counts against system records, and built client-facing catalogs and product sheets alongside the core operations work.

How can EU automotive firms adapt their strategies to increase resilience against trade-related disruptions in EV battery supply chains, amid competition from Asian markets?

  1. The EU is addressing the wrong half of the problem. Geographic concentration is a real vulnerability — but policy focuses on securing raw material access (lithium, cobalt, graphite), while manufacturer exposure actually sits downstream, in dependence on Chinese refining and cell production.
  2. Response windows are structurally too slow. Disruption lags and suppressed information flow directly undermine the "sensing" stage of dynamic capabilities and the agility principle central to supply chain resilience frameworks.
  3. Every mitigation strategy has an uncounted trade-off — from damaged supplier relationships to locking into soon-to-be-outdated technology — that existing frameworks don't price in.
  4. The central finding: demand-side uncertainty is the real blind spot. Manufacturers underinvest in resilience not from unawareness of their dependencies, but because demand uncertainty makes the scale of investment hard to justify — a gap across Resource Dependence Theory, Dynamic Capabilities Theory and Supply Chain Resilience Frameworks alike, and the source of a substitution trap when firms switch battery chemistries to look resilient.
For managers

Treat demand forecasting and contract flexibility as core resilience levers, not secondary concerns.

For policymakers

Shift focus from raw material extraction toward the processing stage; consider mandating EU-partnership terms for foreign manufacturers' market access.

For future research

Integrate demand uncertainty explicitly into resilience theory; examine product design optionality as a resilience mechanism in its own right.

Limitations: a five-industry sample yields transferable but not directly generalizable insights, and snowball sampling may have introduced some similarity bias across participant perspectives.
